GoDaddy.com Is On the Auction Block

September 14th, 2010 No comments

GoDaddy.com

GoDaddy.com, the leading domain registration service and producer of controversial Super Bowl commercials, is up for auction and reportedly worth $1 billion dollars, The Wall Street Journal reports. Also stated is that Qatalyst Partners has been hired to shop the company to private equity firms.

The rumor on the street is that companies like Google, Amazon.com, Cisco Systems, Oracle, Hewlett-Packard, IBM and Microsoft will most likely bid since they have the cash required as well as a natural interest in this market.

GoDaddy.com was started back in 1997 by Bob Parsons, an out-spoken, gun-toting ex-US Marine. His loud attitude and racy advertising including racing car driver Danica Patrick have brought attention to domain names like nothing else. Currently GoDaddy.com has more than 43 million domains under management, a huge share of the market.

In addition to registering domain names, GoDaddy.com sells e-commerce, security and other services to people and businesses looking to manage their online presence. The company posted revenue between $750 million and $800 million in 2009, according to insiders.

The coming weeks will show if GoDaddy.com is worth the $1 billion asking price or even more.
